Spring Checklist for Your Home-Interior Edition - HomeStead Property Watch And Management Services LLC.

Springtime offers a perfect time to start working on some home maintenance items that may have gone overlooked during the winter months. Temperatures will start to get warmer and as the snow melts and rains become commonplace some issues may arise.

Use the list provided below to start working on some interior home maintenance. These are important tasks to check off if you want your home to function properly going into the warmer months.

Home Interior Spring Checklist

Open Your Windows

This may seem like a simple task but it will help you get ready for the summer months and refresh your home. Opening your windows will let fresh air into your home after having had all your windows and doors shut for winter.

It will help get rid of stagnant air in you home and let you air it out. Also use this time to clean your windows and windowsills. This will get rid of any dust or allergens that may have accumulated during the winter.

Check Your Basement and Attic For Signs of Moisture

With the combination of melting snow and increased rain fall in the spring it is important to check for areas of moisture in your basement and attic. Signs of moisture can be visible leaks, water staining, mold, and any odd smells in the area.

Seal of any areas that you find moisture to prevent bigger issues from occuring. Taking the time to check now will help save you in the long run.

Home Safety Checks

When you get a day where it is too gross to go outside or you feel like taking it easy take that time to go through and check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Change out any batteries that need to be replaced and test each alarm to make sure it is functioning.

If you have a fire extinguisher check to make sure the needle is in the green zone. If it is not make sure to purchase a new one so you know you have a functioning one on hand.

Change HVAC Filters

HVAC systems get lots of use during the winter months. To prepare for summer make sure you are checking and changing any filters. Lots of dust and allergens can accumulate on the filter so to make sure you are breathing in clean air it is important to change them after heavy use.

Changing them will also help make sure that your HVAC system remains working properly. Leaving filters unchanged, accumulating dust, can hinder the performance of your HVAC system.

Check Your Sump Pump

Another important item to check before heavy rains start to fall is your sump pump. Some of you may not have a sump pump installed in your home but those that do want to make sure it is working properly.

Having a properly functioning sump pump will help with any moisture issues your home may have. If it is not functioning properly when heavy rains come it can lead to serious problems.

Consider Upgrades
